Dems to Release Immigrant Detainees & Halt ICE Enforcement

People are sick and dying! That’s what we’re told time and time again when we dare to question some of the rather extreme measures the government has taken in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

We have watched as governors have unilaterally shut down parks, arbitrarily demanded businesses shutter their doors, and even ticketed churchgoers for attending drive-in services. To top it all off the federal government has introduced some of the largest spending bills ever seen in order to cover the cost of shutting down the country for the past few weeks.

And there seems to be no end in sight as they are now introducing legislation to “release immigrant detainees and stop ICE enforcement” all in the name of the COVID19 pandemic.

How Will They Do It

It’s clear the Democrats never want to let a crisis go to waste and now they are exploiting this coronavirus pandemic for all it’s worth. Many localities and state governments have released citizen criminal detainees citing COVID19 concerns and now that is transitioning into releasing illegal immigrant detainees as well.

According to the Daily Caller,

Democrats are introducing legislation that, if signed into law, would mandate the release of illegal aliens in detention and stop enforcement measures against a large number of aliens living unlawfully in the United States.

New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker and Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal introduced the Federal Immigrant Release for Safety and Security Together (FIRST) Act on Monday. While many Democratic members of Congress have urged the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for a rollback of enforcement measures amid the coronavirus pandemic, this bill marks one of the first instances where they are turning such concerns into legislative action.

There are 33,863 foreign nationals detained by ICE, according to the agency’s most recent numbers. Of these, 14,049 are listed as convicted criminals, and another 4,646 have pending criminal charges.

“The federal government is entirely responsible for the safety and wellbeing of immigrants in detention centers and Congress must ensure that ICE is heeding critical public health guidance and keeping immigrants and our communities safe from infection,” said Jayapal, the bill’s other sponsor.

Concerns Over Releasing Illegal Immigrant Detainees

First and foremost the largest concern we all should have regarding the release of these individuals is the fact that we may not know exactly who is being released. Many of these detainees come here with no documentation and no records of who they are or possible crimes they may have committed. As a result, we could be releasing high risk—possibly violent offenders into the general population.

Furthermore, these offenders could pose a risk to the population amidst the coronavirus pandemic as they may be carriers of the virus. And not only could they be carriers, but they could also be willingly infecting others.

Finally, releasing these individuals is both risky and detrimental to the citizens of this country. Once released it is more than likely they will disappear into society possibly never to be found again.
