Surveillance Cameras Inside the Homes of Chinese Citizens

William Zhou, who was home quarantined in the city of Changzhou, said a camera was installed inside his apartment.

As the coronavirus wreaked havoc on the world many have begun to throw their civil liberties out the window. We are now looking to China of all places for advice on how to track our citizens. This is happening despite the fact that China is an outright communist country. Many of the tactics they employ violate our Constitutional rights here in the United States.

Nonetheless, CNN applauds China on these invasive tracking methods. Tracking methods that include both smartphone monitoring and cameras inside and outside the home. They even go as far as to surmise that these methods may be a viable tool post coronavirus in the United States.

Tracking the Citizens of Wuhan

As the virus eased its grip on the city of Wuhan, government officials put together an evasive little app to allow their citizens to travel outside the confines of the city. This smartphone application would soon become a necessary component to not only travel but also to enter stores.

The app even included a barcode system that displayed colors to determine what type of threat you posed to nearby citizens. While this may seem like a sensible means to help mitigate the spread of the virus, there were more sinister intentions at play.

According to the NY Times,

But a New York Times analysis of the software’s code found that the system does more than decide in real-time whether someone poses a contagion risk. It also appears to share information with the police, setting a template for new forms of automated social control that could persist long after the epidemic subsides.

It’s never about just solving the problem at hand. The government’s innate sense is to increase control over the people. That is exactly what is taking place here within the confines of communist China. What makes this even more disturbing is the fact that this is now being considered as a viable tool following the COVID19 outbreak here in the United States.

Cameras Everywhere

If the smartphone application to track the citizens wasn’t enough, China is now moving towards placing cameras inside the homes of people throughout the country. These cameras come with the ability to track their citizen’s whereabouts. Furthermore, many are connected to a massive CCTV monitoring system

This is all being done in the name of protecting the people. This is the same mindset that has taken hold here in the United States. In the wake of the COVID19 outbreak, citizens have begun attacking those who dare question the lockdown. Citizens that understand the importance of getting back to work as the shutdown has taken a toll on both the economy and our well being as a society.

The concern here is whether or not the citizens of the United States understand their Constitutional rights. Moreover, people are opening up to the idea of letting the government track us. Companies including Apple and Google are devising smartphone apps for what they call contact tracing. This is being openly embraced by many despite massive privacy concerns. Society has embraced the idea of these contact tracing apps. The question then becomes, how long before they embrace placing cameras in people’s homes.
