“Mass Casualty Event” Doctors Warn Against Continued Lockdown

A recent letter to President Trump from a group of hundreds of doctors poses a very frightening proposition. Could the lockdown become a mass casualty event in and of itself?

Is the cure worse than the disease? This is a question that has been posed by many including our President since the beginning of the COVID19 catastrophe. More than two months later we are coming face to face with the reality that the lockdown could prove to be more costly than the virus itself.

It’s Time to Reopen the Country

As parts of the country begin to open up—there are other areas that remain under stringent lockdown orders. There seems to be no end in sight for many of us. Recently in New Jersey a local gym owner reopened his establishment only to be fined and eventually shut down just days later. It’s actions like this that are taking a toll on every one of us.

Couple that with the thousands upon thousands who suffer from mental illness and substance abuse problems. Many have been suffering through this lockdown without the ability to get the help they so desperately need. They are unable to see therapists, attend AA meetings, and even get the much-needed socialization that keeps them sane.

Doctors Letter to Trump to End Shutdown

As the crisis continues hundreds of doctors have come together pleading with the President to end the draconian lockdown. Portions of the country like my home state of New Jersey have local leaders that have no actual plan to reopen their states. Furthermore, we watch them daily on TV as they dangle little morsels in front of us. For example, governor Murphy recently reopened batting cages, tennis courts, and golf courses acting like he’s doing all of us a favor.

The complete lack of competence in local leadership coupled with the seemingly endless lockdown is taking a toll on all of us. Thankfully we are watching as more and more people become restless and as a result question these lockdown measures. Couple that with the doctors letter explaining the importance of reopening the country and we may just have what we need to get people to fully question the moves being made by local leaders.

Non-COVID19 Health Concerns

According to the Washington Times,

Hundreds of doctors wrote a letter to President Trump this week asking him to end the coronavirus shutdown, saying it is a “mass casualty incident” spurring deaths from other factors such as substance abuse and suicides.

The letter, shared online, estimates about 150,000 Americans each month that the shutdown remains in place would have had new cancer detected, millions more are missing dental exams that could discover problems linked to heart disease, while others are experiencing domestic violence like child abuse.

“Suicide hotline phone calls have increased 600%,” the letter sent to the president on Tuesday read.

Not only is getting back to normal essential for everyone’s mental health and wellbeing, but it is also essential that we get back to normal for our physical health. Throughout this lockdown, the government has made the determination as to what are essential and non-essential medical procedures. How many people have gone without check-ups, dental visits, and other medical procedures that could in effect save their life?

It’s important to see through what we are being fed by the media. It should be up to every single American to take responsibility for themselves. To make the determination of whether or not they want to get back to normal. In the end the lives and wellbeing of all of us are at stake.
