The shooting of Jacob Blake has like many other shootings at the hands of police captivated the nation. Why you may ask did this shooting captivate the nation? The answer is simple! We watched a video containing a snippet of what really occurred prior to Mr. Blake being shot by the police.

It’s Not What it Looks Like on Social Media

As with the majority of incidents like this, what we see on social media is only a mere fraction of the whole story. We watched the video of police kneeling on the neck of George Floyd. This video only captured a fraction of what took place between Floyd and the police. Furthermore, we are coming to find out now that George Floyd may have actually died of a fentanyl overdose.

It turns out the recent shooting of Jacob Blake may also be strikingly different than the way it was portrayed both on social media and in the mainstream news media. Just last night the police union in Kenosha, Wisconsin released what is said to be the real timeline of events leading up to the shooting of Jacob Blake.

According to The Blaze, these are the accounts of what took place according to the local police union.

The union said officers were dispatched because a 911 caller claimed Blake was “attempting to steal [her] keys/vehicle.” According to state investigators, the caller said Blake “was not supposed to be on the premises.”

Police dispatched to the scene were “aware of Mr. Blake’s open warrant for felony sexual assault,” the union said, adding that Blake was not intervening in a domestic dispute like many reports claim.

Investigators with the Wisconsin Department of Justice said Blake had a knife “in his possession,” which they claimed was recovered in the floorboard of his vehicle, the SUV seen in the viral video.

But according to the union, Blake was “armed with a knife,” and the vehicle was not his.

The silver SUV seen in the widely circulated video was not Mr. Blake’s vehicle. Mr. Blake was not unarmed. He was armed with a knife. The officers did not see the knife initially. The officers first saw him holding the knife while they were on the passenger side of the vehicle. The “main” video circulating on the internet shows Mr. Blake with the knife in his left hand when he rounds the front of the car. The officers issued repeated commands for Mr. Blake to drop the knife. He did not comply.

Throughout the altercation, the police union states Mr. Blake was given verbal commands which he did not comply with. Furthermore, he fought with officers putting one in a headlock. Mr. Blake was even shot with a taser. It was only after exhausting all other less-lethal options that the officer resorted to firing his weapon.
