Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, said his Aston Martin runs on cheese waste and excess white wine.

The vehicle was a 21st birthday gift, which the planet-conscious Prince of Wales continues to treasure over five decades later, he said in an interview for a BBC documentary.

“My old Aston Martin now on waste products,” he said. “It runs on — can you believe this — surplus English white wine and whey from the cheese process.”

The prince requested to have the car refitted for sustainability to address climate change and demanded it run on an alternative fuel source, according to a 2018 report.

Changing the fuel source of his car is not the only measure he has taken to help the environment, Charles said.

“I haven’t eaten meat and fish on two days a week, and I don’t eat dairy products on one day a week,” he said. “If more [people] did that, you would reduce a lot of the pressure.”

He continued: “I’ve made sure to ensure that the heating is done in a way that is sustainable. I put in biomass boiler systems and solar panels, which I’ve managed to get on the roof of Clarence House and at Highgrove.”

Global leaders at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference have to do more than “just talk” because “there’s no action on the ground,” Charles told the BBC.

It is because of the slow actions to address the climate crisis that “young people will get frustrated,” he said.
