Death row inmate requests fast-food feast for last meal

A death row inmate in Georgia turned his last meal request into a fast-food feast, the Georgia Department of Corrections said.

Virgil Delano Presnell Jr., 68, is slated to be executed May 17 for the murder of an 8-year-old girl and rape of a 10-year-old girl, according to a report.

For his final meal, Presnell requested two vanilla milkshakes, four hamburgers, four French fries, an eight-piece bucket of chicken, four sodas, potato salad, and two pints of vanilla ice cream, according to the department.

Presnell is set to become the first individual to be executed in Georgia since the pandemic began, according to the report.

Georgia carries out executions by lethal injection with the sedative pentobarbital.

Presnell was convicted of charges including malice murder, rape, and kidnapping in August 1976, but his original death sentence was overturned in 1992, the report noted.

The sentence was restored in 1999.

Presnell’s attorneys blamed his upbringing for his actions and argued that sentencing him to death is unconstitutional.

“Coupled with a childhood marked by ongoing violence, alcoholism, and sexual and physical abuse, it is not at all difficult to see how he developed into an adult with serious disturbances which, left unchecked and untreated, could produce tragic results,” they said in a filing.

An emergency motion to postpone the May 17 execution has been filed by his lawyers, according to the report.
