A Detroit man went viral after footage was released showing him fighting off a gunman on Father’s Day while holding his 7-month infant.

The incident occurred at a local gas station after the father ran in holding the young child and appeared to hide, gas station clerk Adam Albarmaki said.

The suspect ran in shortly after and pointed a gun at the pair, according to the footage.

“Yeah, he runs to hide in the gas station, but he followed him,” Albarmaki said.

The gun appeared to jam, and the father then took advantage of the malfunction, according to a report.

“The father quickly, once he observed it, lifted his arm up and, fortunately, pushed the gun away. He was able to get him outside of the gas station and lock the door,” Detroit Police 2nd Precinct Commander Michael Chambers said.

The actions of the gunman are considered felonious assault, police said when they released footage of the incident to the community in hopes of identifying the subject.

A person of interest was arrested Monday blocks away from the gas station, and police said the assault was the product of a dispute between the two men.

“About a block away from this location there at Tyerman and Humble,” Chambers said. “He had accounted this individual, appears they had some type of argument unknown at this time. We still are early in the investigation and trying to work backwards.”
