Authorities respond to report of suspicious package found in building near White House

Authorities responded to a report of a suspicious package found in a building near the White House in Washington, D.C., Wednesday afternoon.

No injuries have been reported. Personnel from the D.C. Fire and EMS responded to the situation.

“Suspicious Pkg. 1400 block NY Ave NW inside of a building. DC Fire & EMS assisting law enforcement with investigation. There are no injuries,” D.C. Fire and EMS tweeted.

A spokesperson for DC Fire and EMS told the Washington Examiner that “the event is over and we are clearing the scene.” There had been a positive hit for a hazardous substance inside the package, NBC Washington reported.

“The incident has been cleared with no hazardous materials found,” the DC Police Department tweeted.

The building is located about 0.2 miles from the White House, according to Google Maps.
