Ohio Republican House candidate J.R. Majewski allegedly misrepresented his military service, according to a report.

Majewski claimed he was deployed to Afghanistan while serving in the Air Force after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, but documents state he was deployed to Qatar instead, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The report cites documents obtained from a public records request that shows he was deployed to an air base in Qatar rather than to Afghanistan.

Majewski has the term “Afghanistan War Veteran” in advertisements and has run an ad calling himself a “combat veteran,” according to the report.

The House Republican campaign committee describes him as “a U.S. Air Force Veteran, and his squadron was one of the first on the ground in Afghanistan after 9/11.” Majewski’s own campaign website says he “served overseas, and was deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Enduring Freedom,” making no reference to serving in a specific country.

The Washington Examiner has reached out to the Majewski campaign for comment.

“I am proud to have served my country,” Majewski said in a statement to the Associated Press. “My accomplishments and record are under attack, meanwhile, career politician Marcy Kaptur has a forty-year record of failure for my Toledo community, which is why I’m running for Congress.”

Majewski is facing longtime incumbent Democrat Marcy Kaptur for Ohio’s 9th Congressional District in November.
