Postal Service worker arrested after leading police on chase in stolen mail truck

A Postal Service worker in Pennsylvania was arrested Sunday after he led authorities on a wrong-way highway chase driving a stolen mail truck.

Tyler Floro, a USPS employee, never returned the mail truck he was driving, leading state police to search for the vehicle, according to a report.

When they found the truck, authorities discovered it barreling down Interstate 79’s southbound lanes.

State police attempted to pull Floro over, but rather than comply, he reportedly tore through the highway’s median and began traveling south on the I-79’s northbound lanes.

“People started pulling over on the shoulder, and I was going to go around the truck in front of me,” one witness said. “As I’m going around, I see a mail truck coming up the center of the highway at me.”

“It’s surreal,” the witness added. “All those cliches hit you. Your life flashes in front of your eyes, and I was scared.”

Floro drove on the wrong side for roughly two miles, the report noted.

“Guy came by, he was all dressed in his uniform. He had a smile on his face like he was just going out for a Sunday ride the wrong way up the interstate,” said the witness, whose dashboard camera captured the incident.

Eventually, troopers forced the stolen truck to stop and arrested Floro.

Upon being taken into custody, authorities discovered he was carrying drug paraphernalia and was under the influence, according to the report.

“It was determined that he was under the influence of drugs and was in possession of drug paraphernalia,” Trooper Kalee Barnhart said. “While in police custody, he did assault an officer and was charged with aggravated assault for that, fleeing and eluding, and multiple other charges related to his offenses.”
