A former spy for the CIA and Texas congressman has addressed rumors of a possible 2024 presidential run, stating that he has “an open mind” on how to serve the United States.

Former Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) addressed the rumors ahead of his appearance in New Hampshire, where he will meet with several Republicans. The state of New Hampshire has historically held the first primary in the race for the White House, making it key in the race to secure the GOP nomination.

“I always have an open mind about how to serve my country,” Hurd told Fox News. “And I’ve been fortunate to be able to serve my country in a number of different ways. And one of the reasons I’m going to be in New Hampshire is to talk about how the importance of the first-in-the-nation primary is going to affect and determine what we want America to be.”

Beyond the CIA and Congress, Hurd is also known as the author of the book American Reboot: An Idealist’s Guide to Getting Big Things Done. The book details how he believes the GOP needs to change its approach to politics and how the U.S. can reform its political system.

Hurd’s visit to New Hampshire on Saturday will be the same day former President Donald Trump visits the state. Trump has already announced his candidacy for the GOP nomination. Polling for Trump in the state was divided, with 43% of the state’s primary voters supporting Trump’s bid for president and 42% wanting a different candidate, according to the latest New Hampshire Journal/Coefficient poll released on Friday.

“The fact that folks in New Hampshire are going to be able to see different messages is important,” Hurd said when asked about sharing the spotlight with Trump on Saturday. “This is what’s actually great about the Republican Party. We have a diversity of viewpoints and opinions. … We should be having a competition of ideas. That’s the only way that we’re going to make sure this experiment called America continues to exist.”

Aside from Trump, the only other person who has announced his run for the party’s nomination is West Virginia businessman Rollan Roberts II. Other rumored candidates for the candidacy include Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

President Joe Biden has not yet announced if he will run for reelection, but is expected to make an announcement within the coming weeks. A majority of registered Democrats say they want Biden to be their party’s nominee in the 2024 elections, according to the latest Emerson College poll released on Tuesday.
