Another Democrat has filed paperwork to run against embattled Rep. George Santos (R-NY).

Zak Malamed, the co-founder of The Next 50, a Democratic donor network that raises money for candidates under 50, filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission and announced he is running for New York’s 3rd Congressional District. Santos flipped the district from Democrat to Republican in the 2022 cycle.

Santos faces a tough road to reelection after admitting to fabricating his personal backstory. He has since been charged with wire fraud, money laundering, and lying to Congress. He has pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.

In an announcement video posted to Twitter, Malamed took shots at Santos’s falsehoods. He opened the announcement by stating, “Everything I’m about to tell you is true.” He continues by saying he is “actually Jewish,” rebuffing Santos’s claims of Jewish heritage.

“My relatives were victims of the Holocaust. And the nonprofit I started was real,” he said.

“I’m running for Congress because I know first-hand the issues facing New Yorkers are serious,” he added. “So, maybe it’s time we have someone serious fighting for us in Washington.”

A consultant for Malamed didn’t respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.

Malamed is the fourth Democrat to announce he is running for Santos’s seat. The other Democrats are Josh Lafazan, a former Nassau County legislator, former state Sen. Anna Kaplan, and St. John’s University law professor William Murphy. Afghanistan veteran Kellen Curry is the only other Republican who has announced so far.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has said he will not support Santos in his reelection bid.
