A law firm that previously represented Rudy Giuliani has sued him for nearly $1.4 million, claiming the former New York City mayor owed an outstanding balance.

The lawsuit, filed by Davidoff Hutcher & Citron in New York Supreme Court on Monday, alleged Giuliani agreed to pay more than $1.5 million to the law firm on a retainer but has only paid the firm $214,000. A balance of $1,360,196 remains, according to the suit. A longtime friend and ally of Giuliani’s, Robert Costello, a partner at the law firm, was listed as a plaintiff.

The suit claims the legal services provided were from November 2019 through July 2023. The services included representation in the early phases of the election interference cases in Georgia and Washington, D.C. Costello also helped Giuliani with a congressional inquiry, attorney disciplinary proceedings that could cost him his license to practice law, and more than 10 civil lawsuits.

The unpaid balance is the latest example of money struggles for the once-popular and affluent attorney. A political action committee that supports former President Donald Trump recently paid $340,000 to a legal records firm that Giuliani owed money to, according to Business Insider. The former president also hosted a fundraiser for Giuliani, which cost $100,000 to attend, at a golf course in New Jersey.

Giuliani has also seen his share of legal problems. The former mayor was named in a large $10 million lawsuit filed by Noelle Dunphy, who accused Giuliani of harassing her.

He is also one of 18 co-defendants with Trump in the Georgia election interference case, and he was fined $132,000 in legal fees for failing to provide sufficient paperwork to show his financial situation in a separate Georgia case.
