New DeSantis-linked super PAC dropped at least $500k in Iowa on ads

A new super PAC linked to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Monday dropped at least $500,000 in ad reservations in Iowa, with less than two months before The Hawkeye State caucuses.

The ad placements, worth at least $540,000 according to media-tracking company AdImpact, were reserved Monday by a Super PAC called Fight Right Inc. Last week, a nonprofit with the same name was registered by a Tallahassee-based treasurer, according to Federal Election Commission and Florida state records.

The ads are set to air on Thanksgiving. They are expected to focus on former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, according to The New York Times. Haley has been surging lately in the polls, but both candidates are still behind the front-runner, former President Trump.

The Florida nonprofit listed three directors, all with ties to the Florida governor. David Dewhirst, a senior advisor in the governor’s office, according to his LinkedIn. Jeff Aaron, a DeSantis appointee and a lawyer who incorporated the nonprofit. Scott Ross is a managing partner at Capital City Consulting, a lobbying firm closely aligned to DeSantis.

It is unknown why the super PAC was created, but it isn’t rare for outside groups to jump in towards the tail-end of the campaigns.

Candidates are not allowed to directly coordinate with their super PACs.

Both Haley and DeSantis have enjoyed support from their super PAC during the 2024 cycle, capitalizing on the additional expenditure to attack each other before the Jan. 15 caucuses.
