Saturday Night Live made a humorous sketch retelling a fictional version of the famous “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match in 1973 between tennis Hall of Famer Billie Jean King and three-time Wimbledon champion Bobby Riggs.
In the reimagination, the comedy show depicts SNL cast member Sarah Sherman playing female tennis player “Charna Lee Diamond” and Jason Momoa playing male tennis player “Ronnie Dunster.”

The skit’s match pitted Dunster and Diamond against each other, and the Aquaman star’s first serve was so powerful that it drove the tennis ball right through the female tennis player’s stomach, leaving a visible see-through hole.
“We should’ve seen it coming,” a fake sports analyst said in response to the serve. “He was 300 pounds of pure muscle, and she was one of the lowest-ranked female players at the time.”
The female tennis player calls out for Momoa to serve again, despite her clear injury. In the sketch, he winces at her injury and says no, but she continues to demand he serve again.
His next serve is fatal and decapitates her.
Former female athletes weighed in to mock SNL’s sketch for taking so long to address the issue.
“I didn’t realize SNL rejoined the comedy business!” Paula Scanlan, an ambassador at Independent Women’s Forum and former University of Pennsylvania swimmer, who has spoken out about trans woman Lia Thomas’s participation on a women’s swim team.

“This skit missed the obvious opportunity to do cutting edge comedy about trans dudes competing against women, because they were afraid of radical leftists getting mad at them. SNL is full of cowards,” one social media user said.

Radio host Clay Travis reacted to the sketch, suggesting that it was surprising SNL touched on the “low hanging fruit.”
“Although satirizing a dude winning a women’s championship would seem to be low hanging fruit and so far the only place I’ve seen in entertainment mocking this is South Park,” Travis said on social media.
